The Envelope is ready to talk

- Latimes. com/ newsletters.

There’s a lot to digest during this unusual awards season.

In September, the Emmys proceeded with a largely remote virtual telecast — who can forget the dystopian flair of those workers in tuxedo hazmat suits stationed outside celebrity homes to deliver statuettes? Last month, the People’s Choice Awards replaced its usual live crowd with one made up of dozens of giant video panels from all over the country. And what lies ahead — the Golden Globes, the guild awards, the Oscars — is sure to be unlike anything we’ve seen.

But not to fear: The Times is launching “The Envelope: The Podcast” to help you navigate the strangest awards season ever. Every episode will feature your hosts, Yvonne Villarreal and Mark Olsen, in conversation with the talent behind some of 2020’ s most dynamic work. You’ll also hear from Glenn Whipp, Times awards columnist, with beat- by- beat analysis of how the races are shaping up.

The first three episodes, featuring Andy Samberg (“Palm Springs”), Jurnee Smollett (“Lovecraft Country”) and Anya Taylor- Joy (“The Queen’s Gambit”), premiere Wednesday, with a new episode every Wednesday through awards season. Subscribers to The Envelope newsletter will receive a new Wednesday edition with behind- the- scenes details about the interviews.
