Stanford coach Tara VanDer veer tied the late Pat Summitt as the winningest women’s coach in NCAA Division I basketball history with 1,098 victories as the top- ranked Cardinal beat rival California 83- 38 in Berkeley.

Four- time NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant returned from a lengthy injury absence to score 15 points in his debut with the Brooklyn Nets in a 119- 114 preseason win over the Washington Wizards. Durant ruptured the Achilles tendon in his right leg during the 2019 NBA Finals. He left Golden State after that season and joined the Nets but missed all of last season while recovering.

Florida forward Keyontae Johnson remained in critical but stable condition at a hospital, the team reported, one day after he collapsed on the court during a game at Florida State. ... Former NCAA administra­tor Sue Donohoe died Sunday after a brief illness, the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame announced. She was 61. Donohoe was a longtime board member of the Hall of Fame and a Class of 2021 inductee. ... Jimmy Collins, who coached Illinois Chicago to the NCAA tournament three times in 14 seasons, died Sunday morning, the school announced. He was 74.
