Chargers rule out Bosa against Denver

The Chargers ruled out defensive end Joey Bosa for Sunday against Denver. He has been in concussion protocol but practiced on a limited basis this week.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen is questionab­le as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury. Linebacker Denzel Perryman ( back) also is questionab­le.

Edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu ( knee) won’t play . He has been unable to practice since getting hurt Dec. 17 at Las Vegas.

The New York Jets made a $ 1- million donation to four organizati­ons as part of the team’s social justice, inclusion and diversity efforts. Jets players, coaches and staff will volunteer time and expertise on various upcoming projects with each organizati­on. ... Jets assistant head coach Shawn Jefferson will miss the team’s home game Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. Jefferson has been deemed a high risk because of close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID- 19. ... The New York Giants gave defensive back Logan Ryan a three- year contract extension.

The Houston Rockets, whose season opener was postponed because of a lack of players, will be without six players including John Wall and Eric Gordon because of COVID- 19 protocols Saturday at Portland.

Ignacio Ambriz, who coached Club Leon to Mexico’s soccer championsh­ip less than two weeks ago, was hospitaliz­ed with pneumonia related to COVID- 19. ... Manchester City players Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker tested positive for the coronaviru­s.

The Orange County Soccer Club’s winter signing spree continued with the acquisitio­n of former Real Madrid prospect Eero Markkanen, a 29- year- old forward from Finland. Markkanen is the club’s f ifth offseason addition and the third to join from Europe. That leaves the team with 15 players.

Chris Wondolowsk­i, Major League Soccer’s career scoring leader, signed a one- year contract to remain with the San Jose Earthquake­s. The 37- year- old forward scored a team- high seven goals this past season to extend his career record to 166.

Vasili Ponomaryov scored twice and Russia defeated the United States 5- 3 in their world junior hockey championsh­ip opener at Edmonton, Canada. Aku Raty, Henri Nikkanen, and Topi Niemela each had a goal and an assist to help Finland defeat shorthande­d Germany 5- 3.
