Spectacular rime, snow scenery creates fairyland in east China

A spectacular rime and snow scenery is providing captivating views for tourists at scenic spots across China following the onset of a cold wave, which has plunged temperatures across the country. In the Lushan Mountain scenic area in east China's Jiangxi Province, beautiful rime turned the place into a fairyland for photographers and tourists on Wednesday. "When I saw these trees last night, they were still green in color. But this morning, they all changed to white, a completely different scenery, and I feel very happy," said a tourist. "The rime scenery I saw this morning is very beautiful, and I feel happy to see it. It turns sunny now," said another tourist. Lushan Mountain is listed under UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. Affected by the cold wave, the Huangshan Mountain scenic area in east China's Anhui Province Thursday ushered in the first snowfall in the New Year. Originally covered by rime, the pines that Huangshan is famous for are now covered with thick, white snow. The snow began to fall in the area on the early morning of Thursday and still continued at 10:30, with many tourists taking turns to take photos of the scenery. Huangshan Mountain, also known as the Yellow Mountain, is also listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site, covering an area of 1,200 square kilometers and famous for its peculiarly-shaped rocks, cloud-shrouded peaks, pines and hot springs.

Special segments are also dedicated to topics that interest visitors, like the emperor’s wedding and the imperial concubines’ life.

"We used many elements of imperial paintings in the display area, to integrate it into the exhibition space. For example, in the musical instrument part, we used some elements from the Qianlong Emperor's Southern Inspection Tour," said Liu Weixian, exhibition designer.

The exhibition will last for three months. Since the time period coincides with the Lunar New Year, special elements of the festival were added to the exhibits. That includes door gods, spring couplets and lanterns, to provide a strong cultural atmosphere for visitors and bring them auspicious and beautiful New Year wishes.
