Roethlisberger is expected back

- Staff and wire reports

Ben Roethlisberger’s long-term future is unknown, but it’s looking as though he’ll be in Pittsburgh for at least one more season following his meeting Tuesday with Art Rooney II and the quarterback’s agent making it known a contract adjustment would be forthcoming.

With the Steelers in a difficult salary-cap position and Roethlisberger accounting for a fifth of the team’s cap space, the agent for the two-time Super Bowl champion told NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala the quarterback’s camp is prepared to adjust his contract to make it possible for him to return for next season and help Pittsburgh remain competitive.

“They want Ben back and will contact me soon to address his cap situation,” agent Ryan Tollner told Kinkhabwala.

A lawyer for the man who fatally shot former NFL star Will Smith in 2016 said that he’ll seek the man’s release on bond now that a Louisiana appeals court has officially vacated his client’s manslaughter conviction by a non-unanimous jury.

Defense attorney Eric Santana said he plans to seek Cardell Hayes’ release on bond while prosecutors mull their next move, which could mean a new trial. Santana said it was unclear, because of factors including pandemic restrictions at district court, when Hayes would be released.
