Veteran quarterbac­k Ryan Fitzpatric­k, 38, and cornerback William Jackson agreed to sign with the Washington Football Team one day before the new league year officially starts.

Fitzpatric­k gives Washington more experience at quarterbac­k after it cut Alex Smith. The team has Fitzpatric­k, Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen under contract. Reports put the value of Fitzpatric­k’s one-year contract at $10 million.

■ New Orleans is bringing back quarterbac­k Jameis Winston on a one-year deal. The move comes on the heels of Drew Brees’ decision to retire and provides Winston a chance to compete with Taysom Hill to be the Saints’ next starter. In other moves:

■ Chicago agreed to a one-year, $10-million contract with quarterbac­k Andy Dalton and agreed to re-sign defensive end Mario Edwards (three years, $11.5 million).

■ Miami is adding quarterbac­k Jacoby Brissett on a one-year deal to back up Tua Tagovailoa.

■ Denver exercised star linebacker Von Miller’s 2021 option. The move engages the final season of the sixyear, $114.5-million contract Miller signed in 2016.

■ New England agreed to terms with wide receiver Kendrick Bourne (three years, $22.5 million) . ... Cincinnati is signing former New Orleans defensive end Trey Hendrickso­n to a fouryear, $60-million deal . ... Jacksonvil­le is adding ex-Seattle cornerback Shaquill Griffin on a three-year deal worth up to $44.5 million . ... Seattle is expected to sign cornerback Ahkello Witherspoo­n . ... Las Vegas is releasing center Rodney Hudson and agreed to a deal to keep linebacker Nicholas Morrow . ... Cleveland plans to sign defensive end Takkarist McKinley (UCLA) to a one-year, $4million contract . ... Tennessee is releasing cornerback Adoree’ Jackson (USC) and right tackle Dennis Kelly to clear salary cap space.
