Pepperdine to play for CBI championsh­ip

Kessler Edwards scored 28 points and Pepperdine dominated the second half to reach the final of the CBI tournament with an 82-71 victory over Bellarmine on Tuesday at Daytona Beach, Fla.

The Waves (14-12) will face Coastal Carolina for the title Wednesday after shooting 57% from the field and outscoring Bellarmine 41-21 after the break.

Coastal Carolina (18-7) defeated Stetson 77-72 in overtime.

Women

Iyree Jarrett and Stefanie Berberabe both scored 23 points to lead Westmont to the NAIA title with a 72-61 victory over Thomas More of Kentucky at Sioux City, Iowa. Kaitlin Larson had 13 rebounds for the secondseed­ed Warriors (20-2)

Azusa Pacific saw its season end with an 88-76 loss to Lander (S.C.) in an NCAA Division II quarterfin­al game in Columbus, Ohio. Lander enjoyed a 56-25 edge on the boards in improving to 20-1. The Cougars, who finished with a 12-5 record, were led by Kayla Shaw’s 19 points.

English has been an assistant to Rick Barnes at Tennessee . ... DePaul is zeroing in on New York Knicks assistant coach and former Kentucky associate head coach Kenny Payne to be its coach, according to sources.

Pittsburgh sophomore forward Justin Champagnie is going to test the NBA waters. Champagnie was one of the bright spots for the Panthers (10-12), earning All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team honors after averaging 18 points and 11.1 rebounds. The 6-foot-6 Champagnie was the first Panther since DeJuan Blair in 2008-09 to average a double-double and the first Pittsburgh player since Billy Knight in 1973-74 to average at least 18 points and 10 rebounds.
