Wuhan University invites devoted medical workers to appreciate cherry blossoms in campus

-

Wuhan University in central China’s Hubei Province has recently invited medical workers who aided the fight against COVID-19 in the area last year to appreciate cherry blossoms in their campus in mid-March, with special services to be provided for them.

Last year, over 4,000 medics were sent from across the country to Hubei including its provincial capital of Wuhan, the region once hit the hardest by COVID-19, to join in epidemic control efforts.

The university released an open letter on March 8 last year, saying front-line medical workers and their family members are welcomed to visit the campus during the cherry bloom season without having to make an appointment for three consecutive years.

On Feb 27 this year, the school authority sent the invitation to medical workers to visit the campus and enjoy cherry blossoms, with special arrangements to be made on March 13 and March 14.

"We arrange a special channel, a welcome ceremony, one-to-one guide, and a special performance for the two-day cherry blossom viewing. We would like to express our gratitude to those medical workers aiding Hubei and Wuhan in a solemn and sincere manner," said Wu Ping, vice president of Wuhan University.

Over the past few days, tourists have swarmed into the university to view the cherry blossoms. The boulevard has turned into a wonderful fairyland for crowds of students and visitors alike to indulge in the sea of pink and white.

"We feel we're surrounded by cherry blossoms over the days. We feel so happy as we can enjoy the smell of spring!" said a student from Wuhan University.

As one of China’s most prestigious universities, Wuhan University is famous for its cherry blossoms in spring.
