Ex-King Carter extends his deal

Veteran forward Jeff Carter agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins that runs through the 2023-24 season. The deal carries an average annual value of $3.125 million. Carter, 37, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Kings, scored nine goals in 14 games after his acquisitio­n last spring.

Buffalo Sabres goalie Aaron Dell received a threegame suspension from the NHL for body-checking Ottawa forward Drake Batherson into the end boards. Batherson broke his ankle . ... Patrick Allvin was hired as the general manager of the Vancouver Canucks, team president Jim Rutherford announced. Allvin, 47, is the first Swede to become a GM in the NHL.

Chris Mack is out as Louisville men’s basketball coach after he and the school agreed to part ways. Assistant Mike Pegues was named interim coach.
