Vulnerable bird found in east China's Xiamen

-

A bird which is classified as vulnerable species was found in Xiamen City of east China's Fujian Province.

This is the first time a rustic bunting has been spotted in Xiamen, which has refreshed the city's record on bird species.

It was found by members of the local bird-watching association at a park.

Rustic buntings usually live in north part of Eurasia and eastern Russia. Some of them overwinter in east China and western part of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

At the end of the 20th century, the number of rustic buntings was decreasing year by year due to environmental disruption to their habitats and illegal hunting.

This kind of cute bird then was uplisted to Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species in 2016.

Finding the lovely creature in the urban area of Xiamen has clearly showed that the city's overall environment is improving.
