-

Kindergartens, primary and secondary schools across China held colorful cultural and patriotic activities for students on Monday to welcome the first day of school.

The teachers and students of the Jinan No.26 Middle School in Jinan City of east China's Shandong Province jointly performed a gesture dance at the school opening ceremony, kicking off the new semester.

A school in Yancheng City of east China's Jiangsu Province held interesting activities like sitcom, melodrama and card making to help students express their gratitude to their parents, teachers and the motherland.

"We held activities on loving family, school and the country to promote patriotism among our students," said Xu Weidong, principal of the school.

The students at a primary school in Nanchang City of east China's Jiangxi Province experienced the process of traditional movable-type printing. Through the teacher's explanation of the history of movable-type printing and hands-on experience, the children have a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture.

Movable-type printing is an ancient Chinese system and technology, developed through long-term practice and research. Its invention marked a great technological revolution in the history of printing.

Primary school students in Changsha City of central China's Hunan Province also performed a sitcom on promoting traditional Chinese culture.

Schools nationwide on Monday also organized adequate practical lessons to enhance students' hands-on and innovation abilities.

Students at a primary school in Nanjing City of Jiangsu Province showed their inventions and creations during the last winter vacation in the first class of the new semester.

The school has been guiding students to form research groups to conduct inquiry-based learning, as part of efforts to help students build up innovative awareness.

"My grandma is old and it is very hard for her to carry heavy objects up and down stairs. So I made a climbing robot to help seniors like my grandma move objects," said student Yan Yuhao.

Primary Schools in Anji County of Zhejiang province also took part in activities such as planting tea trees and recycling wastes.
