Pepperdine will part with Romar

Lorenzo Romar will not return as Pepperdine’s men’s basketball coach.

Romar is 117-56 in nine seasons in Malibu but 12-19 this season. A search for his replacemen­t is underway.

The eighth-seeded Waves play No. 9 Pacific (6-25) in the West Coast Conference tournament Thursday in Las Vegas.

Romar, who was part of UCLA’s staff when the team won the 1995 national title, spent 15 seasons at Washington, where he played in college after starring at Saint Pius X in Downey and Cerritos College. The Huskies won two conference championsh­ips and three Pac-12 tournament titles. He was the conference’s coach of the year three times.

Virginia Tech’s Elizabeth Kitley is the third player selected ACC player of the year for three straight seasons . ... Oklahoma senior Skylar Vann and Texas freshman Madison Booker were selected co-players of the year in the Big 12.

West Virginia football coach Neal Brown signed a one-year extension that includes a $400,000 pay cut over the next three seasons.

Dean Wade made five three-pointers and scored 20 points in the fourth quarter, and the Cleveland Cavaliers won a replay review in the final second to stun Boston 105-104, ending the NBAleading Celtics' winning streak at 11 games . ... Nick Cousins had two goals and Florida beat New Jersey 5-3 for its sixth straight win, spoiling the debut of interim Devils coach Travis Green. The NHL-leading Panthers won for the 12th time in 13 games and are 25-4-2 since Dec. 23.

U.S. women’s soccer coach Emma Hayes will make her debut in a pair of friendly matches against South Korea in June.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep can return to tennis after sports’ highest court ruled she was not entirely at fault for her positive doping test at the 2022 U.S. Open . ... The Hopman Cup in France was canceled to avoid a clash with the Paris Olympics.
