Pepperdine will part with Romar
Lorenzo Romar will not return as Pepperdine’s men’s basketball coach.
Romar is 117-56 in nine seasons in Malibu but 12-19 this season. A search for his replacement is underway.
The eighth-seeded Waves play No. 9 Pacific (6-25) in the West Coast Conference tournament Thursday in Las Vegas.
Romar, who was part of UCLA’s staff when the team won the 1995 national title, spent 15 seasons at Washington, where he played in college after starring at Saint Pius X in Downey and Cerritos College. The Huskies won two conference championships and three Pac-12 tournament titles. He was the conference’s coach of the year three times.
