Los Gatans want to travel, dine out more as restrictions ease

- Deborah Rice

It’s great news that so many are getting their COVID-19 vaccines, and that Santa Clara County is back in the red tier as of this writing.

In a casual poll as to what people are looking forward to most as restrictions are lifted, the top answers, hands down, were “travel” and “going out to eat.”

The latter is good news for local restaurants. Harry Bangalore of Pedro’s says, “We would like to see people back to Pedro’s and enjoying the restaurant like they did before COVID, we would appreciate that.”

The 10 members of the Tanner family who were dining at Pedro’s were asked what they are most looking forward to, and depending on their age, their answers ranged from Disneyland to swing dancing.

Sure to liven up the corner of Highway 9 and Santa Cruz are Double D’s, now reopened for indoor dining, and the soon-toopen Los Gatos-location of Out of the Barrel Taproom. The former is a longtime local favorite of sports fans; the latter has a strong following of craft beer fans at its Campbell location in the Pruneyard. www.outofthebarrelbeer.com

Talking to local businesses, the feeling is that The Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce has stepped up during this Covidchallenged time. The Chamber has created a special membership category, Friends of the Chamber, for community members who do not own businesses but would like to support the Chamber in its efforts to support the small business community in Los Gatos. Anyone who donates $100 or more to the “Support the Chamber” effort is an automatic Friend. www.losgatoschamber.org

The Los Gatos Saratoga Camera Club is hosting a Worldwide Photography Exhibition, and since it’s virtual, you can easily attend. The “walkthrough” gallery contains 100-plus images from 40-plus local photographers. Many images may be purchased, and 20% of proceeds will go to the Addison-penzak Jewish Community Center of Silicon Valley. The exhibition can be seen through May 1; to view it, visit https://artspaces.kunstmatrix.com and search for “Los Gatossaratoga Camera Club.”

If you have fruit, two enterprising Bellarmine students, Henry Laurencio and Bryce Despars, would like to harvest and donate the pickings to local nonprofits. Looking for a way they can help the Los Gatos community, their solution is to pick excess fruit that would normally go to waste and deliver to those who need and appreciate it. Email lgfruitpickup@gmail.com, and Henry and Bryce will set up a time to come pick.
