West Valley Community Services is looking for volunteers to adopt a family for the nonprofit’s holiday Gift of Hope Program.

The program, a partnership with Cupertino Rotary, provide gifts and food to homeless and low-income families in Cupertino, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga and West San Jose during the holidays. This holiday season, Gift of Hope is set to provide more than 520 homeless and low-income families with items they need, including jackets, blankets, pillows, microwaves, vacuums and children’s jackets and toys.

In deference to pandemic protocols, WVCS will distribute items via a drive-through on Dec. 11.

“The holiday season is especially hard on our clients,” West Valley Community Services’ Development Director Kohinoor Chakravarty wrote in an email to this newspaper.

“While the world celebrates the winter holidays, it is a reminder for our low-income families of all the things they need but are unable to afford, a reminder of the gap between the haves and the have nots in our communities.

“Over the years West Valley Community Services and its supporters have made sure to make the holidays a little brighter for our low-income families by providing gifts for the holidays, bringing them hope that they are not alone in this,” Chakravarty added.

Cupertino Rotarians volunteer to help distribute items to the families served by Gift of Hope.

“Rotary club members care about their communities and together, make an effort every holiday season to bring joy into their lives and ease their burden during the season,” said Richard Flanders, governor of Rotary District 5170, which includes the Cupertino club.

West Valley Community Services is looking for individuals, families, community groups, and corporate to adopt a family or families and donate toward their Gift of Hope needs list.
