Amendment B will increase taxes on homeowners

-

I am a 66-year-old low-income person who is ver y worried that Amendment B will pass, and here’s why. This measure will radically increase residential property taxes. Even though the ads on TV say it will freeze property taxes, it actually won’t.

Property tax is calculated using two scale factors: the assessment and the mill levy. The actual value of the property is multiplied by these to arrive at the tax. While the assessments will remain the same as they are now, the mill levy can be increased, and that will increase taxes on homeowners.

It is obvious wealthy business owners are behind Amendment B, and it would give them a big tax break while it would raise home taxes on vulnerable people. I am having difficulty paying my house taxes as it is, and if this measure passes I might have to sell my home and move. Many others would be forced to do likewise, some who are making good money. To people who want to stay in their homes: Vote no on B!
