Colorado’s clout at stake with Proposition 113
Proposition 113 asks Colorado whether to opt in to the so-called National Popular Vote Compact. A yes vote would mean that Colorado’s Electoral College votes are awarded to the candidate who wins the most votes nationally, even if that candidate loses in Colorado. A no vote would preser ve the Electoral College, preser ving Colorado’s voice and influence in presidential elections. Coloradans should vote no on Proposition 113.
Colorado’s clout and influence are at stake. Under the current Electoral College, presidential candidates pay attention to and care about Colorado and our unique issues and interests. That’s because candidates must campaign here, if they want to win our crucial nine Electoral College votes.
If National Popular Vote goes into effect, Colorado contains just 1.8% of the national vote. Presidential candidates would spend most of their time and energy where the votes are: highly populated, metropolitan communities, such as in California and New York. That amounts to a massive transfer of political power away from pivotal, smaller states like Colorado to heavily populated coastal states and cities. No wonder the yes on Proposition 113 campaign is funded almost entirely by outof-state interests.
Colorado Electoral Votes should go to the candidate who wins Colorado. It’s that simple. Vote no on Proposition 113.
