KRAZY KARL’S

Pizza restaurant launches Loveland location

- BY AUSTIN FLESKES

Loveland residents have a new place to get a freshly baked pizza, as well as wings, salads and more, with the opening of Krazy Karl’s Pizza in the Orchards Shopping Center.

Nearly 11 years after launching its first For t Collins location, Krazy Karl’s opened March 1 at 225 E. 29th St. in the former Toppers Pizza building.

Krazy Karl’s has been a staple of Fort Collins pizza culture for more than a decade, winning multiple Best of CSU awards for best pizza and a 5-star pizza rating from Feasting Fort Collins. Loveland residents can enjoy a takeout pie or outdoor seating with a cold beer at the new restaurant.

Krazy Karl’s started March 20, 2010, at 1124 W. Elizabeth St. in Fort Collins, across the street from the Colorado State University campus.

“(We) built it from the ground up,” said Nate Haas, who created the restaurant with Karl Mobley. “Being close to CSU, we had a pretty good idea it was going to be busy.”

Haas said by the third year, the popularity of the store had skyrocketed, leading to the addition of a second location at 2620 S. Timberline Road about four years ago.

The two locations continued to have high profits and popularity even during the pandemic; Haas said sales were better in 2020 than they were in 2019.

He said he wanted to get another store up and running in Loveland, and after finding the space available with the closing of Toppers Pizza, he was able to get the Loveland Krazy Karl’s location cooking on March 1.

“We were really prepared for whatever sales we were going to get, (and) it has been busy,” Haas said. “What we have enjoyed more is the reaction of the Loveland people we are meeting ever y day. It has been

over whelmingly positive.”

Dan Geller, manager at the Loveland store, said that since its grand opening, the store has been fairly busy. He said he has noticed walking around the area that community members are excited to find out they are ser ving up pizza.

Those who got to experience Krazy Karl’s in For t Collins but live in Loveland have already begun to show up.

Loveland resident Hannah Thollot, who grew up here, said when she went to CSU she not only came to love Krazy Karl’s pizza, but she got her parents hooked on it when they would visit her.

Thollot was getting some pizza Thursday and said she is “pumped” the store is now open.

“It’s surprising how much the community loves this restaurant,” Geller said. “It is pretty cool.”

Haas said he is excited to grow Krazy Karl’s connection to the community. He said the business plans to be part of Loveland events and organizations, such as ser ving as the presenting sponsor of February’s Sweetheart Classic 4-mile race.

“(We are) trying to show we are more than a little pizza place,” Haas said. “We are going to be a major factor in the community; we want to be memorable. We want people to know we are part of the community.”

Krazy Karl’s is open 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. Orders can be placed by calling 970-9666969 or online at krazykarlspizza.com.
