CSU reveals schedule for 2023 season

Mountain West back to one division; Rams open Sept. 2 vs. Washington St.

Coinciding with the release of the 2023 football schedule by the Mountain West Conference on Thursday, Colorado State released its slate of games for the fall.

The Rams will play four nonconfere­nce games before they open Mountain West play at Utah State. CSU will have eight conference games, four at home and four on the road.

One change this season is the Mountain West will consist of one division instead of two and the top two teams will play for the conference championsh­ip on Dec. 2.

Jay Norvell will begin his second season as head coach of the Rams with a home game against Washington State on Sept. 2. They Rams will be off the following week before going on the road for the first time to face Colorado and the Buffaloes’ new head coach Deion Sanders on Sept. 16 in Boulder.

That will be followed by another road game at Middle Tennessee on Sept. 23 before the Rams close their nonconfere­nce schedule at home against Utah Tech on Sept. 30. The games against Washington State and Middle Tennessee are rematches from last season, which CSU lost.

After opening Mountain West play at Utah State on Oct. 7, the Rams will host Boise State on Oct. 14, play at UNLV on Oct. 21 before closing the first half of their conference slate at home against Air Force on Oct. 28.

The final third of the schedule begins with the annual Border War game against Wyoming on Nov. 4 in Laramie. Then the Rams will have back-to-back home games San Diego State on Nov. 11 and Norvell’s former team Nevada on Nov. 18 before closing the season with a road trip to Hawaii on Nov. 25.

Dates are still subject to change based on television assignment­s. Following television selections, kickoff times may be announced.

Key promotiona­l and celebratio­n dates announced in conjunctio­n with the schedule release are Ag Day on Sept. 30, homecoming and family weekend on Oct. 14 and hall of fame weekend including the all-sports reunion on Oct. 28.

The Rams are coming off a 3-9 season (3-5 Mountain West) in Norvell’s first season with the program.
