LOVELAND Children’s Day

The annual Children’s Day will take place Thursday, March 7, in Loveland.

Children’s Day was the longtime dream of Loveland resident Annie Hall, who asked Colorado Senator Stan Matsunaka to sponsor Senate Joint Resolution 01-015 in March 2001, which created a Colorado Children’s Day to be celebrated each year on the first Wednesday in March. The first Children’s Day in Loveland was celebrated in March 2002.

Games, demonstrations and booths will be offered from 1-3 p.m. at the Chilson Recreation Center, 700 E. Fourth St.

BERTHOUD Bird Tracking

A program on Radar Ornithology: Tracking Migration Under the Cover of Darkness will be presented at 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the meeting of the Foothills Audubon Society at the Berthoud Community Library, 236 Welch Ave.

Dr. Kyle Horton, assistant professor at Colorado State University, will share how radar is used to track bird migrations and what we can learn from the data.

Terrestrial landscapes serve as essential areas to restore energy reserves while birds are migrating. Using weather surveillance radar, experts can identify these critical locations during migration, and can predict bird movements throughout the nighttime. Bird migration forecasts can help reduce collisions with buildings, airplanes and wind turbines; inform a variety of monitoring efforts; and engage the public.

Admission is free. Refreshments will follow the program.
