Lady Leopards varsity falls to Jessievill­e

The Malvern Lady Leopards volleyball­s teams were back in action Monday as they hosted the Jessievill­e Lady Lions at the Leopard Center.

The 9th grade Lady Leopards took the court first and defeated the 9th grade Lady Lions 2-0. The 9th grade Lady Leopards dominated in both sets. In set one, the game started out tied but the 9th grade Lady Leopards went up 15-3 before the Lady Lions scored another point. After the scored point by the Lady Lions, the Lady Leopards went on a roll to win set one 25-4.

In set two, the two squads tied at 6-6. The 9th grade Lady Leopards broke the tie and went on a 13 point run before the Lady Lions scored again. The Lady Lions started to make a comeback, but were stuffed by the 9th grade Lady Leopards who won 25-14.

The JV Lady Leopards and JV Lady Lions played next and tied at one set win apiece. The tie occurred after both head coaches agreed to only play two sets in JV competitio­n. In set one, the JV Lady Leopards got the win easily defeating the JV Lady Lions 25-16. In the second set, the JV Lady Leopards took an early lead, 18-10, but the Lady Lions came back to tie the game at 19-19. The Lady Lions then broke the tie to lead 20-19 but the JV Lady Leopards retied the game at 20-all. The Lady Lions broke the tie again and scored two points to lead 22-20, but the JV Lady Leopards fought hard to retie the game at 2222. The Lady Lions once again broke the tie to lead 2322 and then held off the JV Lady Leopards to win the set 25-22.

In varsity action, the Lady Leopards fought hard but couldn’t overcome the Lady Lions to fall 3-0. In set one the Lady Lions took an early lead over the Lady Leopards, but the Lady Leopards came back to tie the set at 11-11. The Lady Lions then scored four point to take the lead 15-11 but the Lady Leopards continued to fight. In the end the Lady Lions won set one 25-22.

In set two, the Lady Leopards had to claw their way back after going down 12-7 to the Lady Lions. The Lady Leopards tied the set at 1313 then broke the tie to lead 14-13. The Lady Leopards continued to lead and went up 16-14 before the Lady Lions broke serve. The two teams continued going back and forth, tying the game at 19-19. The Lady Lions broke this tie to lead, but the Lady Leopards retied the game at 23-23. Once again the Lady Lions broke the tie and went on to win the set 25-23.

The momentum stayed with the Lady Lions for set three as they got the win over the Lady Leopards 25-14. The loss sets the Lady Leopards back to a 1-7 overall record.

The Lady Leopards volleyball teams will be back at the Leopard Center Thursday to take on Camden Fairview. Matches start at 4:30 p.m. with the 8th grade Lady Leopards hitting the court first.
