MAGNET COVE — For their final non-conference game before entering league season action, the defending 5-2A Conference champion Magnet Cove Panthers had a tough contest Friday hosting an unbeaten Dierks Outlaw team for week 4 of Arkansas High School football action at Kenneth W. Hammons Stadium.

With several key players out for the Panthers, Dierks sparked productively to come out victorious against Magnet Cove 36-6. The Outlaws remain undefeated at 4-0.

Dierks utilized their running attack effectively to account for five end zone trips to pull out a surprisingly 30-point victory against the Panthers.

Magnet Cove falls to 3-2 overall.

Despite suffering their biggest margin deficit this season, the Panthers’ defense impacted early to keep a high-power and scoring Outlaws team scoreless

the entire first 12 minutes of game action for the opening period.

In the second quarter, the Outlaws came alive to execute two big end zone trips that gave the visitors a 14-0 lead over the Panthers at the break. Dierks’ Brax

ton Claborn scored the game’s first TD on a 76-yard touchdown run and Konnor Shelton scoring the 2-point conversion gave the Outlaws an 8-0 lead at the 7:11 mark. Then a very controversial

interception that may have actually hit the ground forced Dierks to regain possession at the 7:02 mark. The Outlaws were in Magnet Cove territory to start their drive with great field position led to a 15-yard touchdown pass play involving QB Claborn connecting to receiver Shelton on the reception. The Outlaws 2-point conversion failed, but Dierks maintained a two touchdown lead over Magnet Cove at halftime.

In the second half—third quarter, Dierks started with possession, but the Panthers’ defense stepped up to make key stops and forced the Outlaws to turnover on downs after failing to convert a fourth down situation. Once the Panthers took over possession offensively, the Panthers set up in the traditional wildcat formation utilizing senior star playmaker Landon Stone in the quarterback position. Despite performing with a bad ankle all night, Stone exploded through the Outlaws’ defense and picked up a first down to move Magnet Cove inside red zone territory to Dierks nine yard line. Stone then soared into the end zone on a 6-yard TD run to put the Panthers on the scoreboard and trailed Dierks 14-6 at the 7:21 mark.

Now with some momentum the Panthers defense finished the third quarter strong and no end zone trips were made in the final seven minutes of action for either team in the quarter.
