Malvern takes on Glen Rose peewee

Hot Spring County rivals met at Beaver Stadium Saturday morning as the Malvern 3rd through 6th grade peewee teams took on the Glen Rose peewee teams.

Malvern had a clean sweep of Glen Rose in all four games Saturday. The Malvern 3rd/ 4th grade team defeated the Glen Rose 4th graders 20- 6. In 4th grade action Malvern defeated Glen Rose 26- 6. The Malvern 5th graders defeated Glen Rose 26- 6 and the Malvern 6th grade team was able to defeat Glen Rose 14- 6.

Malvern 3rd/ 4th Grade vs Glen Rose 3rd grade

For the first game of the morning the Malvern 3rd/ 4th grade team took on the Glen Rose 3rd grade team. Glen Rose won the coin toss and elected to defer to the second half. Malvern received the kickoff and held possession of the ball the whole first quarter. Malvern was able to drive 70 yards down the field, after starting at their own 30- yard line, to score as time wound down in the quarter. Malvern scored on an 8- yard run and successful­ly completed a 2- point conversion to lead 8- 0.

Glen Rose took their first snap as the second quarter started. Starting at their own 30- yard line the Glen Rose 3rd graders were also able to move down the field with ease. Glen Rose drove all the way to the Malvern 1- yard line before scoring a touchdown. Glen Rose then attempted a 2- point conversion but failed on the attempt to trail 8- 6 to the Malvern 3rd/ 4th graders with 3: 39 left in the second.

The second quarter ended with neither team able to score. Glen Rose opened the third quarter with the ball but had to punt after five plays. Malvern, starting at their own 32- yard line, was able to score on their next drive. Malvern was pushed back on their first play but then broke free to score on a 72- yard touchdown run. Their 2- point attempt was no good, but Malvern took the lead 14- 6.

For the rest of the game, the Malvern 3rd/ 4th grade defense held strong to not allow anymore points to Glen Rose. Malvern scored once more in the fourth quarter on a 40 yard touchdown run at the 1: 34 mark to win the game 20- 6.

Malvern 4th Grade vs. Glen Rose 4th Grade

In the second game of the morning, the Malvern 4th graders took on the Glen Rose 4th graders. Malvern won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff. The move paid off for the Malvern 4th graders as they scored a 70- yard touchdown on their first play. Malvern went for two but were unsuccessf­ul to lead 6- 0 with 6: 43 left in the first.

The first quarter ended with Glen Rose in possession of the ball. The Beavers had setbacks early in their drive and the setbacks continued as they lost their fourth fumble to Malvern. Malvern was able to capitalize on the turnover after an 80- yard touchdown run. Malvern’s 2- point conversion was unsuccessf­ul but took the lead 12- 0 with 4: 56 remaining in the second.

The follies continued for the 4th graders of Glen Rose as their next drive ended in a turnover on downs. Malvern had success again and was able to hit the open field for an 86yard touchdown. With the first half winding down, Malvern led Glen Rose 180.

Malvern scored once in the second half to take a 26- 0 lead over Glen Rose. With over a minute left in the third, Malvern was able to score on a 40- yard touchdown. This time their 2- point conversion was

successful.

Glen Rose avoided a shutout when they scored with 47.5 second left in the game. Glen Rose scored on a 3-yard touchdown run but failed on their 2-point conversion attempt to trail Malvern 26-6.

Malvern 5th Grade vs

Glen Rose 5th Grade

In 5th grade action, Malvern was able to strike hard and quick to defeat Glen Rose 26-6. After holding the Glen Rose 5th graders to a punt, Malvern was able to score on a 65-yard touchdown run and converted the 2-point attempt to take the lead 8-0 with 4:53 left in the first. Malvern then capitalize­d on a Glen Rose turnover to score on a 4-yard touchdown run. The 2-point conversion was no good as

Malvern led 14-0 with 1:25 left in the first.

Glen Rose started the second quarter having to punt and one play later, Malvern found the end zone again on a 60-yard touchdown run. After a failed 2-point conversion, Malvern led Glen Rose 20-6 with 6:47 left in the second. Malvern scored their final touchdown right at the half after a 20 yard touchdown pass to lead 260.

The only score of the second half came from Glen Rose with 1:02 left in the fourth quarter. Glen Rose scored on a 76-yard touchdown run but failed their 2-point attempt to trail 26-6.

Malvern 6th Grade vs Glen Rose 6th Grade

It was a close battle between the Malvern 6th graders and the Glen Rose 6th graders Saturday. Malvern had taken an early lead after forcing a Glen Rose punt to start the game. Malvern started at their own 36-yard line, but penalties and a fumble pushed them back to their own 7-yard line. Malvern was then able to break free to run for a 93-yard touchdown run. Malvern then converted the 2-point attempt to lead 8-0.

Malvern held the lead 8-0 going into the second but Glen Rose rallied to score at the 3:25 mark. After starting at the Malvern 26-yard line, Glen Rose was able to run three plays before scoring on an 8-yard touchdown run. The Malvern 6th graders then stopped Glen Rose during their 2-point attempt to maintain the lead 8-6.

Malvern kept the lead through the third quarter as neither team was able to score in the third quarter. It wasn’t until time wound down that Malvern was able to score again on a 18-yard touchdown pass that a team scored in the second half. With the touchdown, Malvern won the game 14-6.
