Drive-through fundraiser a success
After two cancellations due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, the Christmas on the Courthouse Square Dorey's Fish Fry drive- through fundraiser event October 2 was a huge success. The fundraiser was held at the Hot Spring County Fairgrounds.
HSC Courthouse Christmas committee member Glorie Thornton mentioned on behalf of the committee that the fundraiser exceeded its expectations. Despite having to cancel previously scheduled fundraisers in April and June, Thornton was not sure how things would turnout. But, she
was very thankful to everyone that played a major role and part to help with the fundraiser, she said.
Thornton said the committee sold nearly 300 tick
ets which has not been as productive in the past, but during a COVID- 19 pandemic that is great. Tickets were $ 12 and include dinner with four- pieces fish or chicken or mixed with french fries, coleslaw, hushpuppies and a drink.
She added they raised around $ 1,200 during the fundraiser. Thornton was overwhelmed by how helpful Dorey's owner and staff conducted its service while customers arrived to receive their meals.
But, most importantly Thornton could not have been more appreciative to the volunteers that sacrificed their time and efforts to contribute while helping during the fundraiser. Thornton mentioned volunteers from Salt Life Church including Dave Holland, pastor, Dusty Thornberry, Kay Thornberry, Crystal
Schadwick and co- worker Susie Cash.
The purpose of the fundraiser is to help purchase Christmas decorations for the courthouse. Last year’s first annual Christmas on the Courthouse Square was a heartfelt warming event for the community. The event had an enormous impact on the community and unified everyone together for positivity. The atmosphere provided a true meaning of the holiday sea
son with the spirit of Christmas enjoyed by everyone.
Plans for decoration this year include— the large Christmas tree with lights, more lights lining around the courthouse building, wreaths and garland at the front door, a large Santa with a sleigh and reindeer, and many more small decorated trees next to the courthouse, made by students of Hot Spring County schools. Also she noted, there are plans to add more lighted displays to the courthouse lawn this year.
The committee is working towards planning several festivities during the event in December.
