Council talks condemnati­on, 911 contract

The Malvern City Council held its monthly council meeting Tuesday via teleconfer­ence through the Teamup Microsoft web app online to utilize communicat­ion from the Malvern Water Works Building in the boardroom.

During the meeting, the council approved four items of new business. The council agreed to accept the 2019 federal audit report for its first order of business.

The council agreed to adopt a resolution involving the condemnati­on of a structure located at 1219 Fall Street. The resolution was introduced by the council and read by Ashcraft, which stated, "a resolution declaring certain properties in the city of Malvern as unfit and unsafe structures.”

For the final two items of new business, the council agreed to accept a proposed 911 contract with the county and voted to appointed Malvern Police Department Captain Doroteo DelaCruz and Malvern Fire Department, CFEI Fire Marshal Chris Brewster to serve as the city representa­tives on a 911 board.

The second reading of an ordinance levying 2021 taxes was introduced by the council and read by City Attorney Cecilia Ashcraft by title only. This ordinance pertains to the city's general fund, police pension and relief and firemen's pension and relief. The council will vote to have the third reading of the ordinance during the next upcoming council meeting in November.

distancing to prevent of the coronaviru­s, Tuesday’s meeting was live streamed with council members able to communicat­e with Malvern Mayor Brenda J. Weldon, City Treasurer/Clerk Phyllis Dial, City Attorney Ashcraft and all city department heads from the Malvern Water Works building in the boardroom.

Weldon called the meeting to order, with the invocation followed by the pledge of allegiance. Following roll call for the council, the council approved the minutes of the previous regular meeting— September 14 and all department­al reports were accepted by the council.

The Malvern City Council will have its next scheduled agenda meeting at 6:30 p.m. November 2.
