Around 150 to- go meals were distributed to the community Wednesday at Victory Praise and Worship Church in Malvern.

The church hosted a pre- Thanksgiving dinner event Wednesday night with several volunteers from Victory Praise and Worship Church, Ouachita River Correctional Unit and Malvern High School Leopard cheerleaders contributing their time and efforts during the process.

The dinners were sponsored by the Ouachita River Correctional Unit and Brandon's Mortuary in Malvern.

Rev. Henry Mitchell, pastor of Victory Praise and Worship Church was extremely thankful to everyone who dedicated their time to volunteer for this community event. Mitchell mentioned how truly it is a blessing to have the opportunity to serve and work in the community during this time. He added, how grateful he is to fulfill a ministry of giving back into the community— especially to provide these services during a holiday that exemplifies being thankful.

Kevin Brandon, funeral director of Brandon's Mortuary felt honored to be a part of this worthy event to also give back to the community in Malvern.

"Brandon's Mortuary has been proud to serve our community for over 40 years and we are honored to serve in this capacity with Victory Praise and Worship Church and Ouachita River Correctional Unit," Brandon said.

He mentioned, "When my mother and father opened in 1978 they established the motto ‘ Where Service Begins and Never Ends’ because that is how we truly feel. The heart of our funeral home and us as people is service. We want our community to know that."

To follow Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson's guidelines due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, volunteers practiced social distancing and a face covering or mask was required during the to- go meals distribution.

On behalf of the ORCU, Superintendent and Warden DeAngelo Earl was appreciative to his staff for volunteering their time to be a part of the event. The staff at ORCU was well represented to help serve and assist the church for an important purpose in the community.

The mission of the Victory Praise and Worship Church is to create a relevant and vibrant community complex serving the educational, social, economic and healthcare needs of the community.
