Businesses to participat­e in window decorating contest

To showcase some Christmas holiday spirit in downtown Malvern, a holiday window decorating contest is taking place for all local businesses between the 400 block of Main Street.

The contest is authorized by the Malvern Downtown Developmen­t Corporatio­n. Each business is requested to decorate its storefront window between November 28 through December 28 with a Christmas theme.

The grand prize winner will receive $200 and a people's choice winner receiving $125 for cash prizes.

Contest rules requests— keep it family friendly; if using lights, please only use non-blinking ones; refrain from including business related announceme­nts and or events as part of the display; refrain from use of live animals in the display; decorated windows should be viewable from the sidewalk, but must not obstruct the sidewalk and or pedestrian right-of-way.

Malvern Downtown Developmen­t Board President Dara Casey mentioned there will be individual­s from out-of-town to judge the contest.

Judging will take place on December 18.

The winner will be presented with a trophy to display inside the business until next year's competitio­n.

Judging criteria for the grand prize consist of—general presentati­on-overall effect, display and placement of decoration­s, originalit­y, and creativity; workmanshi­p-craftsmans­hip, design detail, and effective use of color and material.
