Rolling Tribe’s dream season alive, lay the smack on Outlaws, 48-26

DIERKS — Right from the opening kickoff Friday at Ayers Field ‘’The Hollar’’ in Dierks, the ranked Poyen Indians (10-1 overall) meant business on the gridiron to take out the Dierks Outlaws, 48-26 in the second round of the 2020 Class 2A state football playoffs for week 12. It was Hooten’s 2A Game of the Week, and the “Rolling” Tribe didn’t disappoint to continue making a statement in their quest to championsh­ip glory.

Poyen Indians football head coach Vick Barrett couldn’t be more proud how amazing his Tribe were focused, determined and pumped to play productive on the road in a tough environmen­t deep into the postseason. This has been the best season for the Tribe in their football program by the productive

leadership and guidance of their commander-in-chief —[Vick] Barrett.

“Our kids played their tails off. We came out from the first whistle playing ball,” Barrett said. “I’m so proud of our kids. This is a big step for our football program, our school and our community,” Barrett added.

The Indians sparked in the first half to lead Dierks 28-6 at the break. The Tribe’s dynamic playmakers—Jaxson Carter, Brandon Sanchez, Blake Rhodes along Nate Simmons and Colton Lowe all had multiple touchdown scores for the Indians.

The Tribe’s defense took care of business early and held the Outlaws to only one end zone trip in the first half. The Tribe racked up 20 more points scored in the second half.

Although these two squads had a close match-up in the first meeting on October 2 in Poyen, the outplayed the Outlaws once again to give them their first home defeat of the season.

Poyen now will return back to their home territory next Friday to host the Junction City Dragons in the quarterfin­als at Malvern National Bank Stadium, Indian Field. The Tribe remains unbeaten at home this season and currently rolling on a three-game winning streak.
