Jr. Lady Panthers, Jr. Lady Beavers split hoop victories for rivalry showdowns in Magnet Cove

MAGNET COVE — Before breaking for the Thanksgivi­ng holiday, Magnet Cove and Glen Rose junior high girls basketball teams showcased some intense play on the hardwood at the Magnet Cove High School Gymnasium. Glen Rose secured a four-point win over Magnet 12-8 in seventh grade hoops. But in the junior high matchup, the Jr. Lady Panthers pulled out a dominant 4725 win against the Jr. Lady Beavers. As a result, Magnet Cove and Glen Rose split victories in junior high hoops competitio­n.

In seventh grade hoops, the Magnet Cove Jr. Lady Panthers came up short to Glen Rose 12-8 for two 12 minute halves of action. For the game, Jr. Lady Panthers’ Braelyn McEntire led all scorers with eight points for the game’s overall high-scorer. For Glen Rose, Aubrey Pennington and Madi Melhorn each scored six points apiece to lead the Jr. Lady Beavers in scoring. Melhorn also drilled a trifecta from way downtown behind the arc.

In junior high girls hoop action, the Jr. Lady Panthers maintained the spark early and held a 20-8 lead over the Jr. Lady Beavers at halftime. In the second half, the Jr. Lady Panthers totaled for 27 points while Glen Rose dropped 17 points for third and fourth quarters combined. In the end, the Jr. Lady Panthers rolled onto a 22-point victory to prevail in the rivalry match-up.

For the game, Jr. Lady Panthers’ the duo of Marleigh McCutcheon and Neaira Walls led the scoring department with 11 points apiece for double-digits. McCutcheon also drained three trifectas from behind the arc. Ella Williamson paced the Jr. Lady Panthers with nine points and drilled a trey from downtown. Kylie Covey added eight points, Bella Harville chipped in six points and Dreake McCool contribute­d two points.

For Glen Rose, Jr. Lady Beavers’ Emily Steed led scoring with eight points with Gracie Wright adding seven points as the their top two scorers for the contest. Zavery May chipped in four points, Lilly Goss, Madi Hutcheson and Pennington each contribute­d two points apiece.
