Jr. Lady Beavers win in close bout against Jr. Lady Cubs

It was a close bout on the hardwood of the Leopard Center as the Malvern Jr. Lady Cubs hosted Hot Spring County rival the Glen Rose Jr. Lady Beavers Tuesday.

The two teams kept it close until a dagger 3-pointer by the Lady Beavers at the 4:50 mark gave the Lady Beavers a seven point lead. The Lady Cubs wouldn’t recover and would fall to the visiting Lady Beavers 27-21.

The Lady Beavers took an early lead over the Lady Cubs in the first quarter 7-3. The Lady Beavers struck first with a basket at the 5:30 mark, but the Lady Cubs would tie 10 seconds later with their own basket. At the 3:05 mark, the Lady Beavers broke the tie with a 3-pointer to lead 5-2 and extended their lead after another basket at the 2:17 mark. It was the Lady Cubs who would score the last point of the quarter to trail by four points.

In the second quarter, both teams scored six points apiece. The Lady Cubs first hit two free throws to cut their deficit to two points, 7-5. The Lady Beavers then hit a basket to lead by four points again before scoring went back and forth between the two squads. With 12 seconds left in the quarter, the Lady Cubs were able to make a free throw to trail 13-9 going into

halftime.

Coming out of the half, the Lady Cubs found momentum and were able to tie the game 13-13 at the 5:17 mark. The Lady Beavers broke the tie at the 3:20 mark with a pair of free throws, then came back with another basket to lead 17-13. But the Lady Cubs

managed to make one final basket at the 1:15 mark to trail by two points, 17-15, going into the final quarter.

In the fourth, the Lady Beavers were able to score six points to take an eight point lead over the Lady Cubs. The Lady Beavers’ defense also held the Lady Cubs scoreless

for almost four minutes in the fourth quarter. Finally the Lady Cubs got a shot to drop through the net to end their scoreless streak at the 2:06 mark. From there, the Lady Cubs outscored the Lady Beavers 3-2 but were unable to make a comeback.
