Lady Beavers second quarter rally leads to victory over rival Lady Leopards

After being tied 6-6 in the first quarter, the Glen Rose Lady Beavers rallied in the second quarter with 25 points to take the lead and eventually get the win, 58-21, over Hot Spring County rival the Malvern Lady Leopards Tuesday at the Leopard Center.

In the early part of Tuesday’s game, both defenses held strong to allow only six points to the opposing team. Malvern’s Leona Hogan opened scoring with a basket at the 5:13 mark. Glen Rose’s Love Doddridge came back with a basket for the Lady Beavers to tie the game 2-2 at the 4:14 mark. Glen Rose’s Ashlee Stafford then added two more baskets for the Lady Beavers to extend their lead 6-2. But the Lady Leopards were able to finish the quarter with a free throw from Viktoria Jergenson and a 3-pointer by Lynasia Moore to tie the game at 6-6.

The Lady Leopards took the early lead in the second quarter after Cayla Spencer knocked down two free throws. The lead didn’t last long as the Lady Beavers went on a 19-2 point run down to the 3:24 mark. Malvern’s Leia Patton added one free throw for the Lady Leopards at the 2:37 mark, but it was the Lady Beavers who would end the quarter with three more baskets and a 20 point lead. At the half, the Lady Beavers led 31-11 over the Lady Leopards.

In the third quarter, the Lady Beavers continued to lead allowing only six points to the Lady Leopards and scoring nine points. Going into the fourth quarter, the Lady Beavers held the lead 40-17.

The Lady Beavers continued to storm the basket as they added another 18 points. The Lady Beavers’ defense also held strong as they held the Lady Leopards to just four points to get the win 5821.

For the game, the Lady Beavers were led in scoring by Stafford with 10 points. She was followed by Doddridge with nine points. Jergenson was the leading scor

er for the Lady Leopards with 7 points.

The Lady Beavers will hit the court again on Thursday against Gurdon at home in the
