ARDOT warns of road closures
The Arkansas Department of Transportation reminds drivers to “know before you go” and visit IDriveArkansas.com before traveling during the holiday season.
The Centers for Disease Control recommend individuals stay home as much as possible during the coronavirus pandemic, but if they choose to travel there are several things to consider before you go.
If people do decide to travel during the winter holiday ARDOT wishes them and their family a safe trip.
Extensive highway improvements continue throughout the state; with those improvements come work zones. To aid in people’s holiday travel, ARDOT has been working hard to open as many lanes as possible. Still, travelers will likely face work zones and possible delays due to increased traffic volume.
Closures include areas of: Hwy 7 in Garland County, Hwy. 167 in Calhoun County, Hwy. 82 in Columbia County, Hwy. 79 in Ouachita County, Hwy. 65 in Boone County, Hwy. 177 in Baxter County, Interstate 555 in Craighead County and Hwy. 425 in Ashley County.
In addition to the closures listed above, there will be sporadic closures along Hwy. 65 in Pulaski County as contractors replace overhead signage. Work is weather dependent, so it is difficult to create a deliberate schedule for the work. Closures will be short, perhaps a quarter mile at most and are all are scheduled to occur during nighttime hours to have the smallest impact on traffic possible.
Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ARDOT.gov.
