Scoreless first quarter leads to loss for Lady Leopards

After failing to score in the first quarter against the De Queen Lady Leopards, the Malvern Lady Leopards found themselves in a hole that they couldn’t dig themselves out of last Friday at the Leopard Center.

De Queen scored 10 unanswered points in the first quarter to take an early lead and despite scoring in the next three quarters, Malvern was unable to overcome the deficit and fell 50-22.

After the first quarter, De Queen scored another six points to lead 16-0 before Malvern was able to get on the board. Malvern’s Ty Easter scored the first points for Malvern at the 5:32 mark of the second quarter. Easter scored another basket at the 2:20 mark as Malvern trailed 20-4. Malvern’s Dysire Jones also scored a point in the second quarter, off one free throw, to give Malvern five points at the half. De Queen scored 12 points in the second to lead 22-5 at halftime.

In the third quarter, De Queen was able to take a 22 point lead before Jones scored a basket to cut Malvern’s deficit to 20 points at the 5:41 mark. De Queen then answered with a 3-pointer to go up

by 23 points, 30-7, but Malvern’s Viktoria Jergenson also nailed a 3-pointer to keep pace with De Queen. Malvern scored another four points, all from Jones, but De Queen added another 11 points to lead 41-14 going into the fourth quarter.

In the final quarter Malvern scored eight points with Cayla Spencer making

two free throws and Jergenson knocking back two more 3-pointers. De Queen added another nine points to end the game with an even 50 points.

The leading scorer for Malvern was Jergenson with nine points, all from 3-pointers. After her was Jones with seven points, Easter with four points, and Spencer with two points.
