OBHAW counselors offering new therapy

- Special to the MDR

Staff at Ouachita Behavioral Health and Wellness is pleased to announce that they now offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy. This type of treatment is known to help those suffering a wide range of trauma. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, EMDR, involves reflecting on specific experiences of past trauma in a person’s life. It is a form of therapy that helps people heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. These are the experiences causing the most stress, grief or other emotional reaction. This formal process takes time and requires the services of a therapist trained and certified specifically for EMDR therapy program treatment. Most people gain remarkable, life-changing success in 12 to 20 sessions. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. However, EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference.

Who can benefit? EMDR therapy helps children and adults – all ages. The therapists use EMDR with a wide range of challenges, including, but not limited to: sexual assault, PTSD, pain, panic attacks, violence and abuse.

OBHAW currently has three licensed counselors who have gone through the intensive EMDR training and are currently in the process of being certified in EMDR treatment.

Anyone who needs more information or if he or she would like to become a client, simply come into the Walk-in Clinic to start the process, no appointment needed. Individuals may also call 501-624-7111 or visit the website at www.OBHAW.org.
