Warriors, JV Warriors come up short in victory hosting Woodlawn at OHS Gymnasium

DONALDSON — In their return to the hardwood Monday, the Ouachita Warriors senior high and junior varsity teams battled tough and hard in defeat to the Woodlawn Bears on the Ouachita High School AllCare Pharmacy Court at Ouachita High School Gymnasium.

The junior varsity boys tipped off the night for the first contest of holiday hoops. In two 12 minute running clock halves of action, the JV Warriors fell in victory to Woodlawn, 37-17.

In the first half, the JV Warriors posted five points with Kaden Fulmer blazing the net with a trifecta from behind the arc and Hayden Patrick scoring from the field. The JV Bears posted in double-digits to lead Ouachita 19-5 at the break. In the second half, the JV Warriors accounted for 12 points scored, but the JV Bears poured 18 points on the scoreboard to secure a 20-point victory.

For the game, JV Warriors’ Fulmer led the scoring core with seven points and nailed a trey.

Patrick and Payton Neal each contribute­d four points apiece and Caden Morrison added two points.

In the nightcap for senior high boys action, the Warriors provided a close match-up early against Woodlawn.

The Warriors’ first half play kept the game interestin­g, but the Bears pulled away strong in the second half—resulting in Ouachita suffering a 62-40 loss to Woodlawn. The Warrior-Tribe maintain a slight one-point lead three times in the first quarter—4-3 (6:34 mark), 6-5 (4:17 mark) and 8-7 (1:44 mark). At the end of the opening period, Woodlawn led Ouachita 10-8.

The Warrior-Tribe headed into the second period with only a two-point deficit but the Bears dropped 20 points through the hoop to outscore Ouachita (20-10). Team wise, the Warriors posted in double-digits in the second quarter, but trailed Woodlawn at halftime, 28-18.

In the second half, the Bears maintained their surge and finished the third quarter leading Ouachita 41-26.

After three quarters of action, the Warriors had their biggest deficit of the night—trailing by 15 points to Woodlawn.

In the fourth quarter, the Warriors sparked for 14 points added to their side of the scoreboard, but the Bears also accounted for another double-digit scoring period with 21 points for the 22-point victory.

For the game, Warriors’ big man Tanner Furr led scoring in double-figures with 13 points. Morrison finished the night with six points, Neal contribute­d four points and Fulmer nailed a trifecta from behind the arc for three points. Westbrook also finished the game with three points.

The Warriors will be off the rest of the week and scheduled to return to the hardwood in January 2021 for new year hoops competitio­n.
