Jr. Panthers go into cruise control mode, rout ACA for 50-point victory, 58-8

MAGNET COVE — To produce a dominant 26-0 first quarter surge, the Magnet Cove Jr. Panthers cruised through the next three quarters of action to defeat the Arkansas Christian Academy Jr. Knights 58-8 in junior high boys basketball competitio­n last Thursday at the Magnet Cove High School Gymnasium.

A variety of Jr. Panthers took care of business never slowed down by their aggression and productive play on the court for the Panther hoop fans. At halftime, the Jr. Panthers led the Jr. Knights 42-2. Magnet Cove’s defense just allowed their visiting opponents one basket from the field the entire first 12 minutes of action. Now, heading into the locker room with a 40-point advantage the Jr. Panthers had no doubt this ending would play into their favor as the victors of the night.

In the second half, the Jr. Panthers added 16 points total while the sportsmans­hip rule went into effect at the start of the fourth quarter with Magnet Cove ending the third quarter leading ACA 532. The Jr. Knights managed to post six points in the fourth, but headed back to Saline County in defeat against the talented Jr. Panthers showcasing a big night on their home territory.

For the game, Jr. Panthers’ Cade Davis was top-performer of the night and led all hoopsters with a big 16 points for double-figures. Davis’ performanc­e outscored the entire Jr. Knights team totaled eight points for the game. Following Davis was a quadruple of Jr. Panthers’ Luke Harper, Bronson Coolis, Connor Jackson and Wilson Ballentine all dropping six points apiece. Ballentine and Jackson both swished two trifectas apiece beyond the arc from downtown for a productive long range shooting display. Payton Plyler followed the surge to finish with five points. As a result, the Jr. Panthers empty the bench as the entire team received quality action to celebrate one of their memorable dominant wins during the era of junior high basketball head coach Matt Williamson.

The Jr. Panthers are scheduled to battle this week to continue their attack on the court for the 2020-2021 basketball season.
