Blazing 19-0 first half advantage leads to 31-point win for Jr. Warriors against Trinity Christian, 37-6

DONALDSON — To produce a dynamic display of defensive dominance on the Ouachita High School AllCare Pharmacy Court Tuesday for the basketball fans in Donaldson, the Ouachita Jr. Lady Warriors cruised to a 37-6 victory against Trinity Christian in junior high girls basketball action at the Ouachita High School Gymnasium.

The highlight of the game was the Jr. Lady Warriors defense in the first half. Ouachita held Trinity Christian scoreless the entire 12 minutes of action—without a made basket from the field, foul line or behind the arc. The Jr. Lady Warriors concluded the first quarter with a sizzling 12-0 lead. Delaney Daniell, who led all scorers including opponents’ Trinity Christian, dropped 11 points for double-figures. Daniell, finishing with eight points scored in the first quarter, nailed two jumpers from the baseline and around the free-throw area from productive shooting. Daniell also penetrated past the Trinity Christian Jr. Lady Warriors’ defense with a strong finish at the basket that sparked a 8-0 lead advantage for Ouachita at the 2:44 mark. Jordan Hubbard stepped out in the passing lane for a steal, then scored a layup while Maddie Fulmer nailed a jumper from the field to contribute to Ouachita’s scoring in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, more stout defense by the Jr. Lady Warriors continued to disrupt the game plan and strategy for Trinity Christian. Abrie

Ables kept the pace progressin­g by drilling a jumper to start off the period to increase the Ouachita lead 14-0 down to the 4:00 mark. Olivia Waters added her spark with a strong finish from the block (post area) to score—followed by Daniell crossing over the Trinity Christian defense to swish a pull up jumper to build Ouachita’s surge for an 18-0 lead with two minutes remaining in the first half. Before the break, Andi Fowler added to Ouachita’s lead by splitting a pair of free-throws to give the Jr. Lady Warriors a commanding 19-0 advantage at halftime. Ouachita outscored Trinity Christian 7-0 in the second quarter.

In the second half, the Jr. Lady Warriors kept rolling with their defense and had multiple steals defensivel­y that turned into a productive offense for the entire six minutes of action. Down to the 3:40 mark in the third quarter, Waters scored twice from the field and Hubbard added a bucket to give Ouachita a 25-0 advantage.The trio of Daniell, Hubbard and Brailyn McCarter all stepped up with steals that kept Trinity Christian from executing any offense for baskets during the first three minutes in the third quarter. Fowler sank both free-throws while Daniell and McCarter hit 1 of 2 foul shots to end Ouachita’s scoring in the third. Trinity Christian managed to finally score their first basket of the game at the 1:30 mark in the third. But after three quarters of action, Ouachita led Trinity Christian, 31-2.

In the fourth quarter, the sportsmans­hip rule went into

effect for a continuous running clock and the Jr. Lady Warriors outscored Trinity Christian, 6-4. Linden Green dropped a floater off the backboard—and did call for a bank shot while Ables scored backto-back buckets off a steal and a rebound to secure a victorious performanc­e for the Jr. Lady Warriors.

For the game, Jr. Lady Warriors’ Waters and Ables each scored six points apiece and combined for 12 points to outscore Trinity Christian— while tying them scoring wise individual­ly. Hubbard finished with four points, McCarter and Fowler each poured three points apiece and Fulmer had two points.

OUACHITA VS. BISMARCK

Monday the Ouachita Jr.

Lady Warriors hosted Hot Spring County rivals’ Bismarck for a close and competitiv­e junior high girls hoop duel at the Ouachita High School Gymnasium. During a tough duel for pride, the Jr. Lady Warriors fell short to Bismarck, 26-20. For the game, Ouachita’s Waters led scoring with a strong 13 points for double-figures. Daniell, Fowler, and Rayna LaSalle each finished with two points and McCarter chipped in one point from the charity stripe.

For the Jr. Lady Lions Tori Lingo paced Bismarck and led in scoring with 13 points for double-figures. Alydia Zia added six points. The Jr. Lady Lions improve to 10-2 for the 2020-2021 season.
