What is Truth?
During his trial, Jesus said, “For this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. ...Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?” (John 18:37-38).
In 32 AD, almost 2,000 years ago, Pilate heard testimony from false witnesses who distorted the words of Jesus, claiming, “He made himself the Son of God” (John 19:7). But did Jesus actually make himself the Son of God? In truth, the angel Gabriel said to Mary, “Behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. ...That holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:3135).
We born-again Christians did not live 2000 years ago to see Jesus Christ with our natural eyes. Even so, we experience personal fellowship with him in a way that non-Christians are incapable of understanding. Just as Jesus promised: “I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you” (John 14:1617).
“The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things” (John 14:26). “When he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). That Spirit of Truth in Jesus revealed the truth to Pilate. “Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar” (John 19:12).
Jewish religious leaders erroneously believed that they could suppress the truth and hold onto their power by manipulating the facts, lying and murdering, which are works of Satan. The devil ...was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it” (John 8:44). Satan always loses in the end (Revelation 20:10). In 2021 AD, major TV news networks in league with Democrat Party senators and congressmen feel threatened by conservative Christians. They use Satan’s tactics of distorting the truth in order to win people over to their side. Those who watch news programs of Donald Trump’s impeachment will see videos about the January 6 riot in Washington, DC and become infuriated. While being told that Republican followers of Donald Trump committed the rioting, viewers will not see the video of a Trump supporter snatching a tool from someone trying to break a capital building window.
The viewer will hear a short excerpt from Trump’s speech on January 6 where he said, “If you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore.” The TV viewer will not hear where Donald Trump said, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.” Nor where he said, “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women, and we’re probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them.”
Network viewers won’t hear the whole truth being told by the Democrats, nor major news networks. Satan only tells a distorted version of the true story when he’s trying to use people to damage someone he fears.
“Peaceful and patriotic” demonstration exercises our constitutional right to free speech, and is not an impeachable offense. Withholding the whole truth while testifying should be impeachable, both in trials and while airing news programs. Lying in order to keep your job will not hold up as an excuse on Judgment Day when, “All liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone” (Revelation 21:8).
