Lions fall to rival Beavers, bounce back with two road wins

After falling in overtime to their Hot Spring County rival, the Bismarck Lions have rebounded with two road wins.

The Lions took on the Glen Rose Beavers last Friday and forced overtime after a back and forth battle. The Beavers would get the win in overtime against the Lions 42-37.

On Tuesday the Lions traveled to Prescott to take on the Curley Wolves and won 59-49. The Lions then traveled to Fouke on Thursday and scraped by with an eight point, 49-41 win over the Panthers.

Bismarck Lions 59, Prescott Curley Wolves 49

On the road Tuesday, the Lions were able to set the pace early as they defeated the Curley Wolves. In the first quarter the Lions jumped out to a 13-8 lead. In the second, the Curley Wolves made a comeback, but the Lions were still able to outscore the Curley Wolves by one-point to lead 27-21 at the half. The Lions continued to outscore the Curley Wolves in the second half, 15-14 in the third and 17-14 in the fourth, to get the 10-point win.

Dawson King was the leading scorer for the Lions with 26 points and seven rebounds. Ian Smith followed with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Also coming up big was Wayne Porterfiel­d with six points, two rebounds, and two assists; Collin Parrie with four points and five rebounds; Logan Bubulka two points, eight rebounds, and three assists; Beau Wesson with two points and three rebounds; and Braven Golden with one point and one assist.

Bismarck Lions 49, Fouke Panthers 41

On Thursday the Lions traveled Fouke to take on the Panthers in a close match up. Once again the Lions set the tone by outscoring the Panthers 16-5. The Panthers fought back though in the second quarter when they outscored the Lions 17-8 to go into halftime trailing by two points. The Lions came out in the third to take an even bigger lead after outscoring the Panthers 11-6 to lead 35-28. In the final quarter, the Lions just edged the Panthers by one-point, 14-13, to get the win 49-41.

King was once again the leading scorer for the Lions with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Bubulka and Smith were next with five points each. Bubulka also added eight rebounds and two assists while Smith had six rebounds and four assists. Parrie and Porterfiel­d each added four points with Parrie adding seven rebounds and Porterfiel­d adding three rebounds. Connor Corley rounded out the scoring corps with two points and five rebounds.
