Lady Warriors come up short in rematch duel to Kirby, prevail for overtime win against rivals’ Poyen
Rowton’s 18 pts. leads all scorers, while Harper soars with double-double for Poyen
DONALDSON — The Ouachita Lady Warriors were featured in two huge showdowns on the court that resulted in a split of victories on the Ouachita High School AllCare Pharmacy Court at Ouachita High School Gymnasium. In a 1A-7 Conference finale match-up, the Lady Warriors fell short to the defending 1A state title contenders Kirby Lady Trojans 69-56. But, Tuesday, the Lady Warriors had another night of tough competition, which came from Grant County of the Poyen Lady Indians that produced an atmosphere filled with thrill and excitement. The non-conference duel concluded their season series match-up with the Lady Warriors securing victory in overtime against Poyen, 48-38.
LADY WARRIORS 56, KIRBY LADY TROJANS 69
Monday, the Lady Warriors faced off against the reigning Class 2A state champion Kirby to conclude their league season meeting match-up. The Lady Warriors brought another tough effort of competitiveness to the champs, but the Lady Trojans prevailed 69-56.
For the game, Lady Warriors’ senior duo Lizzy Rowton and Tess Kuykendall led scoring with 12 points apiece. while Aileen Ables dropped
10 points for account for double- figures. Rowton racked u p five rebounds, dished out six assists, and defensively had five steals and two deflections. Kuykendall snatched three rebounds, had one steal and two assists. Ables recorded a rebound. Inside player Gabby Buras scored nine points around the paint with three rebounds off the glass. Linsey Sirratt finished the night with six points scored and snatched three rebounds and facilitated four assists, while Emma Williams sparked with five points including three rebounds and had four deflections defensively. Lauren Daniell added two points with a rebound against Kirby.
LADY WARRIORS 48, POYEN LADY INDIANS 38
Tuesday, for rivalry hoops, the Lady Warriors went into overdrive against their rivals’ Poyen that showcased a classic senior high girls showdown in Ouachita. Throughout a 32 minute display of intensity, aggression and physical action that kept a close contest, Ouachita and Poyen were tied 38-38. This forced an extra five minutes of more intense and nail biting emotions to witness which team could execute through the pressure overtime period. During overtime it was the Lady Warriors that came out strong and outscored Poyen 10-0 to secure the 10-point victory. For the game, Lady Warriors’ Rowton took control as the game’s high-scorer and poured 18 points with five rebounds, had two assists, two deflections and four steals. Williams followed with 11 points, hit two triples from downtown beyond the arc and snatched six rebounds—three assists, three deflections and three blocks for double-figures with Rowton. Sirratt scored nine points with two rebounds, three deflections and had four steals. Daniell added four points with three blocks, three steals and two rebounds. Ables (four deflections, four steals), Kuykendall (two rebounds) and Buras (one key block) each had two points apiece.
For Poyen, Gracen Murphy led the Lady Indians with 11 points for double-figures. Harper Edwards finished with a double-double of 10 points and snatched 11 rebounds for a productive performance. Ellie Sutterfield sparked with nine points to contribute to the Lady Indians play.
