Leopards baseball gears up for 2021 season, to host chili supper Monday

- By Alexis Meeks Staff Writer

With baseball season right around the corner, the Malvern Leopards baseball team is gearing up with a Chili Supper Fundraiser.

The chili supper was originally schedule for today but was postponed due to inclement weather.

The supper will now take place Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church located at 531 S. Main St. The supper will also be a drive-through event to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines.

For those that don’t want the chili supper but still want to give to the Leopards’ baseball team, $10 donations are also being accepted.

The Leopards open the 2021 season with a benefit game February 26 against Hot Spring County rivals, the Glen Rose Beavers. The game will take place at Morrison Park in Malvern at 5 p.m. with both the varsity and junior varsity hitting the field.

After that, the Leopards will then participate in the Benton Tournament from March 1 to March 6. They then go on the road to Nashville to compete in their first conference game. Last year, the Leopards season was cut short after just a few games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Leopards played five games before the shutdown and despite battling hard, lost all five matchups.

The Leopards are looking to overcome last year and get back on the diamond. The Leopards are under the direction of second year head coach Jordan Knight and second year assistant coach Brooks Balisterri.
