Season begins for Lions, Lady Lions

With opening day starting Monday, the Lions and Lady Lions have already had one win and one loss to start the 2021 season.

The Lions opened Monday at home against Gurdon and secured a victory, 16-2 over the Go-Devils. The Lions then went on the road to face the Fountain Lake Cobras Tuesday. The Cobras were able to overcome the Lions in a 5-0 win. The loss puts the Lions at 1-1 to start the season.

For the Lady Lions, opening day was on the road against the Benton Lady Panthers Monday. In the first inning, both squads each scored a run to tie at 1-1. In the second inning the Lady Panthers were able to drive-in two runs to take the lead. The next three innings fell scoreless as the Lady Panthers claimed victory, 3-1. For the game, the Lady Lions had one run on five hits and had no errors. The Lady

Panthers had three runs on six hits and had two errors.

The Lady Lions bounced back Tuesday with a dominate road win, 17-1, over the Fountain Lake Lady Cobras. In the first inning the Lady Lions set the tone with seven runs scored. The Lady Cobras were able to score one run in the bottom of the first to trail by six runs. The Lady Lions didn’t slow though as they continued to pile on the runs through the next three innings. The Lady Lions added two runs in the second, four runs in the third, and another four runs in the fourth. Overall the Lady Lions had 17 runs on 11 hits and one error against the Lady Cobras. The Lady Cobras had only one run on two hits and six errors in Tuesday’s game.

The Lions now go on the road to compete in the Prescott Tournament through Saturday. The Lady Lions hit the field again Monday taking on Hot Spring County rivals Magnet Cove at Magnet Cove at 4:30.
