Arkansas Symphony Orchestra continues Masterworks Series with “Around the World”

-

Little Rock, ARK, – The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra presents the third concert of the 2020-2021 Stella Boyle Smith Masterworks Series. Around the World will be streamed from the Robinson Center on March 27 at 7:30 p.m. and March 28 at 3:00 p.m. Due to health and safety precautions, the program will be presented virtually, available for a minimum donation of $10. Concert information and the stream are available atwww. Arkansas Symphony. org/ aroundworld. The Stella Boy le Smith Trust is the Masterworks Series sponsor.

The ASO will perform music from composers from around the World. The program features Swiss composer Arthur Honegger’s “Pastorale d’été” and British composer Anna Clyne’s Within Her Arms, a piece composed after her mother’s sudden death. The program will conclude with Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla’s Tanzago (Variations on Buenos Aires). Interim Artistic Director Geoffrey Robson describes Piazzolla’s Tanzago as “a serious workout for the orchestra.” The piece combines the traditional arc of a symphonic work with the sensibilities of tango music.

The 2020-2021 Stella Boyle Smith Masterworks series was initially scheduled to start in September of 2020, but the season was postponed due to the pandemic. ASO will present Around the World virtually March 27th and 28th and in-person for subscribers only March 20th and 21st by RSVP only. Subscribers can RSVP by calling the Box Office during business hours at (501) 666 – 1761 ext. 1. The orchestra will announce plans for the April and May programs closer to the events.

The public release of Around the World has been rescheduled from March 20th and 21st to March 27th and 28th. This schedule change will allow more time for editing and producing the virtual concert for the best viewing experience.
