Bismarck sweeps county rivals’ Magnet Cove

Hot Spring County rivals Magnet Cove and Bismarck took to the diamond Monday for Sr. High baseball and softball.

The Lions and Lady Lions were able to get the better of their county rivals, the Panthers and Lady Panthers, in non-conference play.

The Lions were able to strike early and held the Panthers at bay to win the game 8-1. The Lady Lions and Lady Panthers kept it close early, but the Lady Lions pulled away with a six-run seventh inning to win the game 13-2.

Bismarck Lions 8, Magnet Cove Panthers 1

It was a slow start for both teams as the first inning fell scoreless, but the Lions were able to pick up the pace by scoring one run in the top of the second inning to take the lead.

After a scoreless third inning, the Lions extended their lead to 3-0 after crossing home plate twice in the fourth inning. The Lions went up 4-0 after adding another run in the fifth inning and holding the Panthers

scoreless.

The Panthers lone run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Lions squashed any chance of a comeback win in the seventh inning by adding four more runs and getting three quick outs to win the game 8-1.

For the game, the Lions recorded eight runs on six hits. The Panthers recorded one run on two hits.

Bismarck Lady Lions 13, Magnet Cove Panthers 2

The Lady Lions and Lady Panthers kept it close early in Monday’s game. The Lady Lions scored three runs in the top of the first to take an early lead, but the Lady Panthers scored one run to

trail 3-1.

The Lady Lions started to pull away in the third quarter when they added one run, the second inning fell scoreless, to lead 4-1. The Lady Panthers added their second run of the game in the bottom of the fourth to trail 4-2 to the Lady Lions.

In the fifth, the Lady Lions found their stride and were able to add another three runs to take a five-run lead over the Lady Panthers. After a scoreless sixth inning, the Lady Lions added another six runs to secure the win, 13-2.

For the game, the Lady Lions had 13 runs on nine hits. The Lady Panthers had two runs on four hits.
