Warriors edged at Gurdon, fall to Hampton
For two big and competitive match- ups on the diamond in recent baseball action, the Ouachita Warriors made productive plays but came up short of victory. On the road, the Warriors were edged by a one- run defeat on the road to the Gurdon Go- Devils, 4- 3. Then in their return home to Warrior Field, the Warriors fell to the visiting Hampton Bulldogs 5- 0 for non- conference baseball action.
Ouachita Warriors baseball head coach Anthony Nail and staff with the Warriors aim to regroup to progress back into stout performances. The Warriors will return to the diamond this week for more competitive match- ups for non- conference action hosting Poyen and Bismarck at Warrior Field.
Warriors 3, Gurdon 4
The Warriors sparked early to knot the game at 2- 2 with two runs scoring in the third inning. With the game tied, Ouachita batting in the top of the fifth saw Hunter Hathcock single on the first pitch at bat, scoring one run. Gurdon built momentum offensively and regained the advantage to drive one run in the fifth to lead 3- 2, then took the lead for good with two runs scored in the top of the seventh inning.
Despite suffering a heartbreaking defeat, the Warriors won the batting battle and out- hit Gurdon. The Warriors tallied six hits while Gurdon totaled five hits with two errors on the day.
Offensively, Kelton Fowler led at the plate with two hits, Caden Lee, Kaden Fulmer, Hathcock, and Hunter Rook each recorded a hit apiece. Also, Lee, Larson Fowler and Riley Adams each crossed the home plate for a run apiece. The Warriors had four stolen bases with Adams, Kelton Fowler, Fulmer and Lee each recording a stolen base apiece.
Defensively, Payton Neal and Kelton Fowler each brought the heat from the mound. Neal went two and two- thirds innings, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out five batters, no walks and threw 34 strikes. Kelton Fowler started the game and went four innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out four batters, had no walks and threw 41 strikes.
