Rook’s no-hitter surges Warriors past Conway Christian in shutout victory 16-0

CONWAY — Ouachita Warriors’ pitcher Hunter Rook kept the strike zone sizzling from the mound to record a no-hitter in a shutout victory against the Conway Christian Eagles 16-0 on the road Friday for non-conference baseball action. The Warriors surpass their previous season-high runs (14 runs) with 16 against Conway Christian.

Rook led the Warriors’ defense and threw 49 strikes across the plate and struck out nine batters—while allowing no runs, no hits and no walks through five innings of action.

The Warriors infielders and outfielder­s controlled the diamond productive­ly as a defensive unit to shut out the Eagles on their territory for an impressive 16-run victory.

In the first inning, Ouachita sparked their offense by scoring one run on a stolen base. While during the second inning, the Warriors added another run, then scored five runs in the third inning by soaring to a 7-0 lead through the first three innings of action. In the fourth, the Warriors increased their run margin by driving three more runs at home to take a 10-0 lead. In the fifth, the Warriors saved this inning to shine and scored six runs that led to a double-digit lead at 16-0. The Warriors offensive execution at the plate was led by Jayden Alston, Easton Kyzer, Keith Miller, and Kelton Fowler, all driving in runs in the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Warriors defense completed the 1-2-3 punch to shut down the Eagles’ offensive execution for the sportsmans­hip run rule to occur with Ouachita victorious.

For the game, the Warriors tallied 16 runs on 12 hits while the Eagles were held scoreless and hitless with eight errors. Offensivel­y at the plate, Rook and Miller each collected multiple hits for the Warriors. Miller and Rook each managed two hits apiece to lead Ouachita at the plate. Kelton Fowler, Kaden Fulmer, Bradley Neal, Alston, and Kyzer. Miller, Fulmer, Adams and Kyzer each scored two runs apiece, and Kelton Fowler, Barret Ashby, Rook, Brady Huneycutt, Alston, and Colton Braswell each scored a run around the bases for a trip at home.

Adams, Kelton Fowler, Miller and Rook each drove in two runs for two RBIs— Alston, Brawell. Kyzer, Caden Lee and Neal each had an RBI apiece.

Leading the base running was Miller with four stolen bases. Neal, Rook, Braswell and Caleb Force each had one stolen base.

The Warriors end a fivegame losing skid for their third victory of the season.

Beginning tomorrow the Warriors will be in action as the host team of the Mike Volz Memorial Tournament held at Warrior Field.
