MCHS Panthers, Lady Panthers split home wins against Jags

Jr. Panthers, Jr. Lady Panthers cruise past Lisa Academy

MAGNET COVE — Earlier this week, Magnet Cove senior and junior hoopsters went to work on the hardwood for the PPRD basketball fans to display a four home game stanza hosting Lisa Academy Jaguars at Magnet Cove Gymnasium.

The Jr. Lady Panthers tipped off the night victorious for a 41-13 blowout against the Jr. Lady Jaguars. For the game, Jr. Lady Panthers’ Bailey Ramthun led scoring with 13 points and drilled three triples in double-figures—kori Dawson added eight points, Haddie Hawthorn and Baylie Martin each contribute­d six points apiece.

The Jr. Panthers rolled away victorious over the Jr. Jags 49-38—Jr. Panthers’ Hunter Woods led all scorers with 12 points, including a 10 point scoring third quarter and Bronson Coolis posted 10 points for double- figures in Magnet Cove’s 11-point double-digit win.

In senior high girls action, the Lady Panthers soared to a 61-20 dominating win against the Lady Jags. Marleigh Mccutcheon led all scorers with 13 points while teammate Brianna Ramthun paced the Lady Panthers with 12 points for double-figures. Karsen Davis added seven points and knocked down the game’s opening triple beyond the arc—izzy Sawyer and Neaira Walls each contribute­d six points apiece. In the nightcap game, featuring senior high boys action, the Panthers came up short to the Jags 63-47. Magnet Cove’s Owen Til le ry was the overall night’s top performer with a stout 22 points and drilled four triples beyond the arc with a second half slam dunk for double-figures. Jace Beckwith followed with 10 points to post in double-digits and teammate big man Kadin Baker dropped eight points from the field.

BATTLE AT THE COVE 2021

Monday, November 29, the Battle at the Cove Invitation­al Tournament returns to host several area basketball programs—ouachita, Glen Rose, Centerpoin­t, Cutter Morning Star, Bearden, Parkers Chapel, Baptist Prep and Fountain Lake to highlight an intense showdown of senior high girls and boys hoops competitio­n.

The tournament host teams— Magnet Cove Panthers and Lady Panthers will tip-off on Monday, Nov. 29 for the late games at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The tournament is scheduled Nov. 29 - December 4 at Magnet Cove Gymnasium.
