Panther trio Tillery, Beckwith, Evans surges Magnet Cove to victory against rivals’ Ouachita

Lee, Wilson post double-digits to lead Warriors in scoring department

BATTLE AT THE COVE BASKETBALL TOURNEY 2021 BOYS FIRST ROUND GAME 4 MAGNET COVE VS. OUACHITA

MAGNET COVE — For the final match-up of the night, the Magnet Cove Panthers rolled to a 74-45 win against in-county neighbors Ouachita Warriors in the boys opening round of the 2021 Battle at the Cove basketball tournament hosted at Magnet Cove Gymnasium.

The Panthers were led by a trio of double-figure scoring performanc­es—owen Tillery, Jace Beckwith and Layne Evans surged Magnet Cove for their second victory of the season against the Warriors.

Tillery was the top-performer with a 17-point scoring night with Beckwith finishing with 14 points and Evans contributi­ng 10 points for Magnet Cove. Tillery and Evans both drained a triple from beyond the arc.

Despite a tough road loss for the Warriors, Rhett Lee surged Ouachita with 14 points while Tanner Wilson sparked with 10 points for a Warrior—tribe duo of double-figures.

Lee also showcased his threepoint shooting and buried two trifectas along with Wilson for pure long range beyond the arc.

The Panthers rolled out to a productive 19-5 first quarter advantage against the Warriors. In the second, the Panthers outscored the Warriors 25-19—with Magnet Cove leading at halftime, 46-24.

In the second half, the Panthers posted a 18 point scoring third quarter to lead Ouachita 64-33. In the fourth, the Warriors coasted for a 12 point scoring period while the Panthers added 10 to their side of the scoreboard in Magnet Cove’s tournament win.

For the game, Panthers’ big man Kizer Kidder finished with nine points and a monster two-handed dunk in the second quarter.

Evin Ashcraft followed with eight points, Peyton Plyler and other big man Kadin Baker each contribute­d four points—alex Edwards and Caden Green each chipped in two points apiece.

For Ouachita, Kelton Fowler and Kaidan Bahr added two points, big man Tanner Furr and Brayln Maynard both had six points apiece and Elijah Ryals drilled a triple from beyond the arc for three points.

UP NEXT

Magnet Cove advances to the semifinals round Thursday to face the winner of tonight’s Fountain Lake vs. Bearden match-up, while the loser takes on Ouachita in the consolatio­n round Saturday.
