Davis pours season-high 19 to secure Lady Panthers victory

GIRLS FIRST ROUND GAME 3 MAGNET COVE VS. CMA

MAGNET COVE — Karsen Davis showcased a season-high scoring night by dropping 19 points and drilling a couple of downtown cherry bombs from beyond the arc for double-figures that surged the Magnet Cove Lady Panthers past the CMA Lady Conquers 62-36 Monday in the girls opening round of the Battle at the Cove basketball tournament at Magnet Cove Gymnasium.

Davis also was 3 of 4 from the charity stripe in the tournament’s host team’s 26-point win Monday.

CMA stayed close early during opening quarter action, but the spark from floor general and true freshman point guard Ella Williamson took charge to ignite the Lady Panthers’ offense for assists—with Brianna Ramthun drilling a trifecta, Marleigh Mccutcheon making a steal and coasting to score and Kynsli Brashears knocking down a bucket. Williamson sank a few foul shots with another true-freshman inside player Neaira connecting on both foul shots and burying a jumper inside the arc to give Magnet Cove a 19-14 first quarter advantage over CMS to display for the first eight minutes of the game.

In the second, Magnet Cove outscored CMA 17-8. At the break, the Lady Panthers led the Lady Conquers 36-22. In the second half, the Lady Panthers built momentum and finished the third quarter with a 50-32 lead.

In the final period, McCutcheon with Williamson, Izzy Sawyer, Bella Harville and Walls all accounted for contributi­ons for a 12 point double-digit scoring period— defensivel­y holding the Lady Conquers to four points scored in the final quarter—resulting in victory for the Lady Panthers.

For the game, Lady Panthers’ Mccutcheon and Walls both dropped eight points apiece, Williamson and Harville added six points apiece, Sawyer finished with four points—the trio Brashears, Ramthun and Lawrence all chipped in three points apiece and Riley Matthews contribute­d two points.

Magnet Cove Lady Panthers will face Glen Rose in the girls tournament semifinals round Thursday at 7 p.m. CMA takes on Ouachita in the consolatio­n round Saturday at 10 a.m. at Magnet Cove Gymnasium.
