Beavers back to contend for more tourney title hardware led by Jones Moon guiding Lady Beavers for productive play in 2021-2022

The Beaver Dam rockin’ for ‘Game Time’ basketball fever in Glen Rose

GLEN ROSE — The Beaver Dam is rockin’ on the hardwood by the Glen Rose Beavers and Lady Beavers to begin the 2021-2022 basketball season.

GAME TIME— LADY BEAVERS

The Lady Beavers might have come up short in their first game to Bauxite, but took it to the talented Hot Spring Lady Trojans in a 51-46 defeat in their performanc­e in Spa City. Then turning their attention to tournament mode, t h e Lady Beavers had a productive showing on the hardwood in the Battle at the Cove in Magnet Cove. Head coach David Moon returns for his second season to guide the Lady Beavers down another challengin­g road through the 2021-2022 basketball season. Thus far, several Lady Beavers have showcased some impressive play on the hardwood by stout long distance shooting, and even a game-winning thriller to handle under pressure—leading to victory.

RIVALRY HOOPS

The Lady Panthers opened tourney play defeating in-county rivals’ Ouachita in a 40-39 thriller. Lady Beavers’ senior Laney Crutchfiel­d led scoring with 12 points—drilling two triples and Stevens followed with 11 points including three triples for double-figures. Crutchfiel­d sank the game-winning basket that lifted the Lady Beavers in victory. In the semifinals, the Lady Beavers went down to the wire against another in-county rival Magnet Cove—falling to the rival Lady Panthers 41-38. Ashlee Stafford dropped a whipping 17 points and swished three trifectas from beyond the arc as the game’s top-scorer. Maci Carver drilled a couple of rainbow trifectas beyond the arc for eight points—makayla Stevens also swished a triple for productive play on the hardwood. In their consolatio­n match-up against Baptist Prep, the Lady Beavers battled fiercely in a 44-37 defeat. Stevens displayed a phenomenal shooting performanc­e as the game’s high-scorer with 18 points and drained four triples for double-figures. Stafford and Sydney Riggan followed with seven points apiece, Carver nailed a triple for three points, CJ Mccullough and Crutchfiel­d each had two points apiece. But this past Tuesday, the Lady Beavers topped rival Malvern 45-34 in a competitiv­e match-up of rivalry hoops.

David Moon aims for these match-ups to prepare the Lady Beavers to make a strong run in the conference play and be contenders for the postseason—in tournament time.

GAME TIME— BEAVERS

While achieving some championsh­ip glory last season winning the 3A-7 District Tournament, the Beavers are back in full effect to tip-off the year of 2021-2022 on the hardwood. With a full and steady roster, head coach Devin Jones is excited to present a talented and skillful group of athletes to make noise on the court. Jones anticipate­s making another strong run for some “March Madness” competitio­n—to qualify for state back-to-back seasons. The Beavers have several returning key pieces to stride Glen Rose down the path of victory to capture more season achievemen­t.

The Beavers came out with a close season home-opening win against Mineral Springs to post a victorious appearance at the Glen Rose Sports Arena. Then the Beavers brought some excitement to tournament competitio­n in the Battle at the Cove hosted at Magnet Cove Gymnasium.

Throughout their run, the Beavers bulldozed by Parkers Chapel 59-26. Big man Brayden Youngman shined with a 21 point double-figure performanc­e and Cohen Carter followed with a whipping 18 points as a senior duo threat for the Beavers. Although the Beavers fell short to Cutter Morning Star and Magnet Cove during tournament action, Glen Rose had productive production from their performanc­es. Youngman led all scorers with 12 points for double-figures and Carter drained two triples for nine points, Ethan Stafford sank two triples with six points, Tagg Haynes nailed a triple for three points and Kaleb Meredith contribute­d productive­ly. Ty Hood has shown a spark as a key sixth man off the bench for the Beavers with snatching boards off the glass and key outside shooting from downtown this season.

CONFERENCE

Glen Rose Beavers and Lady Beavers are set to open conference play hosting Prescott December 14 as they keep their mentality focused on the hardwood and progress effectivel­y this season.
