Will I Recognize Friends And Family In Heaven?

- Stephen Paul Guest Columnist

Recognizing Friends And Family In Heaven? This is an important question for believers who may have lost or are facing the loss of a friend or family member.

The Bible is very clear in this...

I have often been asked “Will I recognize my friends or family members who have gone before me in heaven?” The answer is most reassuring!

In Genesis chapter 15 God is making a promise... a covenant, with Abraham, who at the time was childless. God would not only answer Abraham’s desire for a child (Isaac), and would expand the reality of Abrams answered prayer beyond his imagination. “He that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.” (Gen. 15:4 c.) And in verse 5 God presents the reality that Abram would be able to recognize them in the heavens, in the future...

“And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.” Gen. 15:5.

In the Scriptures, Luke 9: 28-33, the Word of God gives a glimpse (through the Transfiguration to Peter, John and James) of the eternal nature of our being as He, God, reveals the ‘spirit-being’ of the departed in verse 30 through the appearance of Moses and Elias.

Scripture further reveals to Moses, in Deuteronomy 32:50, that the departed will be gathered again with believers... “and be gathered unto thy people; as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people.”

Additionally, First Corinthians 13 verse 12 states the fact that not only will we recognize the saved friends and family members who have gone before us, but that they shall recognize us also...

“For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”

There are numerous Scriptures pointing to the reality of recognizing saved friends and family in Heaven, here are a few more... Genesis 25:8; 35:29; 49:33. Judges 2:10. Luke 16:23-25.

As believer’s, we are very blessed. Can you imagine the welcoming committee awaiting your arrival?

Doubtless, they will have many wonderful and awe-inspiring things to show you, and I, as we are greeted in loving embrace and welcomed into the presence of God.

Truly, the Word of God brings many blessings and reassurances to believers, both in this life and for the life to come!
